This inaugural event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 19th, 2013. Participants will be part of what will surely become the keystone running event for Central Illinois! The River City Marathon promises to bring an experience that has something for everyone! We are offering participants the choice of running the 5K, 25K, Marathon, 4 Person Marathon relay, or kid’s Mini Marathon. This exhilarating course will begin in downtown Peoria, and take participants on a journey through many city neighborhoods that exemplify the characteristics of our community’s historic past, our vibrant present, promising future, and end at the beautiful Peoria Riverfront. “Up a Crazy Otto River” Starring Johnny Maddox
Johnny Maddox is one of the leading ragtime piano players of all time. He was already America’s number one jukebox artist when in 1954 he recorded the first all-piano record in history, “The Crazy Otto Medley”. It spent 14 weeks at the top of the charts, and became the first ragtime record to sell over 1,000,000 copies, eventually selling over 2,000,000.
Johnny played his first public concert when he was only five. He began his professional career when he was 12 years old. Johnny knew and played with many of the leading ragtime artists as well as many of the major artists of the 50’s including: Patsy Cline, Eddie Arnold, W. C. Handy, Joe Jordan, Charles L. Johnson, Clyde McCoy, Ted Lewis, Tony Pastor, Lawrence Welk, Sammy Kay and Eddy Howard.
